Hey, you guys remember those power lines that you said totally weren’t your fault for causing any fires? And as the song goes, “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” is your new motto, it’s just a coincidence for sure. Because you completely and totally did everything you could, didn’t you?

Hi, Baby (Maui Electric),
Response from company's claims adjuster Shanlei Manuwai (claim 20241220-1312-1) sums up your business model perfectly: "Hawaiian Electric's electric cables run for miles underground, across the entire island of Maui. The Company's extensive network of cables and corresponding equipment are not routinely dug up for inspection... Therefore, malfunction of equipment failure with these underground cables are not foreseeable or within the Company's control through the exercise of reasonable diligence and care".

Suggestion:
1. Just continue billing your customers the highest rates in the country for the electric services provided (and not provided),
2. Do not worry about maintaining miles of your own power lines/ equipment until they actually break/ cause a fire and
3. Keep denying any liability for the damage caused to the customer's equipment/ properties when the power keeps going out to the whole neighborhoods for extensive periods of time!
Perhaps, playing in a sandbox (with no power lines and no electric equipment around as they are too much hassle to maintain for the electric power company, right?) and continuing having multiple "mamas" generously feed your "operations" is a better fit for your company's business model? :)
We sincerely hope that this feedback, together with dozens similar ones shared by your existing customers, will prompt much needed changes in the way how your company sets your priorities, leaves its footprint on the island, and the impact you chose to have on your customers.

Been here since 1991. MECO sucks. Monopoly. Totally take customer for granted. They seem to think we are here for them, rather than they are here for us.

Why in the world, one year after a devastating fire, does Maui electric not have their power outage map functioning!? And then refers people to X for information!? Seriously that's the best they can do refer the community to the former twitter!? I do not know one person in my community that has a Twitter account! They have a Facebook account update that for God sakes.
