Our sub zero stopped working late into the night. 8am next morning, Rachel at M&M picked up my call. A little past 11am, Mike showed up at our door, just as promised. Less than an hour later, the fridge is back to life. M&M is a classic example of how businesses should be run! Thank you Mike and Rachel!

This is a very long review so beware but Mike is the best appliance repair person we've found in 8 months and 3000 miles of looking. Ten stars isn't an option but he would get a 10 star review. We had never met him before this encounter so we are 100% unbiased as we aren't from the area and will most likely never see him again.

Here goes the long part:
We had a problem with a 20 year old Sub-Zero undercounter fridge installed on a boat we are travelling/cruising full time on. We'd worked on trying to get it fixed for 8 months while underway from the Gulf coast around Florida and up the east coast and could never find a repair person, fluent on Subzero and available within a few days to look at it. We called Mike and he said no problem, he does a complete rebuilt on these units at a fixed price (a third the cost of a new one IF they still made them). Cutting to the chase, he replaced the compressor, evaporator, dryer and a complete cleaning and returned the unit to us at the marina in 4 hours. While it would run in a diagnostic mode, something was still wrong and most likely in an electrical circuit board with replacement parts that are no longer available from Subzero or from anywhere on the aftermarket (and we confirmed this independently). ... After calling Subzero and receiving no solution to the issue he promised to keep working on it as we left the area and we were resigning ourselves to the fact that we still didn't have a working unit after several hundred dollars just invested and probably never would. Much to our pleasant surprise he called us back a day later and said he had been in touch with the highest level engineer at Subzero. A person who had been with that company for 40 years and knew as much about these units as anyone on the planet. That person suggested that the symptoms sounded like a little known mode called "Showroom Mode". (Not in the service manual: we downloaded it and checked). Turns out this is a status the unit could be put in to light up, run the control display, etc without actually running the compressor and using energy in a sales environment. Three button pushes by us on the control panel later and waiting about 2 minutes, the unit fired up and ran perfectly, then perfectly overnight and now perfectly for over a week. Without Mike's willingness to follow through and 'keep at it', we'd still be living out of an ice chest. While essentially a 'one man show', he could have just chalked the problem up to "unresolved" and let this traveling couple move on most likely never seen or heard from again. NOPE! His desire to truly help people in need is very very rare these days and we would trust him to work on anything he says he can work on and can recommend him with no hesitation whatsoever.
