Kim’s has been my go to place for decades, but I think it’s time to find a new place, unfortunately. Firstly, his 11-4 Tues-Fri hours mean taking time off work to go there. Secondly, I went to buy a new watchband, which was difficult to locate amongst the pile of used bands. Found a new one and watched him do the install and when the band interfered with the rotating bezel, which I had to point out, his solution was to take a pair of pliers to the band and watch to make it fit, ie bigger hammer method! Found a new one and watched him do the install and when the band interfered with the rotating bezel, which I had to point out, his solution was to take a pair of pliers to the band and watch to make it fit, ie bigger hammer method! In the process of installing the band, one of the metal caps popped off the band and apparently landed somewhere in his workbench pile of spare parts or on the floor. I also had to point out the missing piece to him and at first he wanted me to just accept the band as is. After spending 20 min digging thru the pile on his bench and the pile of parts on the floor under his bench with no success, I asked him to remove the band and left, while he asked me to return tomorrow by which time he would have supposedly found the missing piece. His shop is a mess, I don’t see how he will find the missing piece, and I no longer want that band on my watch nor do I want him beating on it again trying to make it fit. Makes me sad, really because his type shop is fun to browse and becoming very rare.
