I recently brought in my Xbox Series X because it kept crashing during gameplay, starting with Fortnite and eventually affecting other titles. The tech thoroughly inspected and cleaned the system, replaced the thermal paste, and tried a full USB hard reset. When that didn’t work, he tested both the power supply and the motherboard. Even after swapping the motherboard, the issue still wouldn’t resolve, which he said he’d never seen before. Since nothing fixed it, we agreed I’d just pay the cleaning fee. Even after swapping the motherboard, the issue still wouldn’t resolve, which he said he’d never seen before. Since nothing fixed it, we agreed I’d just pay the cleaning fee. The console worked slightly better for a few days, then went back to crashing and eventually started shutting down completely. Now, a couple weeks later, it’s even pixelating when it crashes. At this point I don’t know if it was on his end or just an Xbox-level defect, but I may have to send it to Microsoft since the console is only four years old. I will say the tech was extremely transparent throughout the entire process. He kept me updated, tried multiple troubleshooting steps in under a week, and even met up with me when he realized he’d forgotten to return my disc. Even though the remaining issue seems tied to a broader Xbox problem, his work and professionalism were excellent.
