My rear differential in my dodge ram was making a lot of noise. I removed the diff cover and axles. I found play in the wheel and carrier bearings. I asked Giffin to replace the bad bearings. The ring and pinion gears did not appear to be damaged. Griffin transmission called me few days later. The first (160 dollar) diagnostic test was inconclusive and second (180 dollar) diagnostic test would be required. The second diagnostic test would require removing 12 bolts and the diff cover. One hundred and eighty dollars to remove 12 bolts and do an inspection seemed to excessive to me and I declined the service. Griffin did give me a quote... Griffin did give me a quote of between 2000 and 4000 dollars for repairs plus 280 dollar diagnostic fee. I did not have the 2nd test or repair work done at Griffin.
