I scheduled a repair on my freezer the week before for Friday noon to 2:30. I take time off work, clear my freezer, noon arrives and i’m ready…. 2:30 passes, and nothing. I call at 2:45, and am told that they they need to check with their tech. They call me back 10 min later that the tech had a family emergency.
I get it. It happens. But failing to inform the scheduled appointments for an afternoon is a pretty big fail. They offer to reschedule for Monday and i request they waive their $100 appointment fee. The caller says they need to check with a manager. Thats fine. Just call me back in an hour. Then nothing.

I recently had a frustrating experience with Community Appliances. During a service visit, their technician replaced my thermostat and then reassembled my dryer incorrectly which caused additional damage. While they acknowledged partial responsibility by offering to cover the labor costs, they surprisingly expected me to pay for the damaged part (unrelated to the thermostat). Additionally, nobody there can seem to justify the offer being made.
This experience left a sour taste, especially considering their initial willingness to "meet me in the middle" only to shift the financial burden onto me. This experience left a sour taste, especially considering their initial willingness to "meet me in the middle" only to shift the financial burden onto me. As someone who values local businesses, I was/am disappointed by their customer service and refusal to fully rectify the situation.
If you're considering Community Appliances for your needs, I would caution against it. Their approach to customer service and responsibility is concerning, and there are likely better options available in Portland.

BEWARE: As a once-satisfied customer, I am appalled by their shocking negligence, which left me electrocuted and could have caused a house fire. This company’s disregard for electrical safety is not just unacceptable—it’s dangerous.
The technician they sent to install my system cut corners in an appalling way. Instead of properly addressing the fact that my 220V 30Amp plug didn’t fit my receptacle, they bent the plug to “make it fit” and forced it in. This left the plug exposed, resulting in me being electrocuted—a traumatic and potentially deadly incident. Worse still, this botched job could have sparked a catastrophic fire at any time.

I initially chose Community Appliances to support a local business, but when I raised this serious issue, I was met with indifference and insult. Mistakes can happen, but their response—or lack thereof—revealed their true colors. When I visited their store to discuss the incident, I didn’t demand anything unreasonable; I simply sought accountability and an apology.
Instead of apologizing, the owner/manager dismissed my concerns, claiming my safety issues weren’t valid. Their idea of “compensation” was to throw a $20 bill onto the counter for a replacement cord, treating me with blatant disrespect as if I were some nuisance to be silenced. I will never shop here again.
