I drove up from Georgia on Tuesday to explore the JC area. My '08 Wrangler provided major braking shimmies along the way and later threw a few yellow lights (ABS, traction, etc). She (Tabitha Road Warrior) truly enjoys acting out on road trips!
I spent a bit of time in the hotel checking out mechanics and reviews. There are a bunch in JC and I know no one here. It was Julie's response to a 1 star review that caught my attention. It sounded so down to earth and straight to the heart of the matter, with zero ugliness. I picked and called Carroll's shortly after they opened.

Coordinated with Gary and drove in. I was a bit gabbier than usual and Gary was very kind. Detailed what was happening and discussed with Ray who took it from there. Everything he identified as needed made complete sens, rotors, pair of calipers and new pads. Ray also took care of the O2 sensor that was throwing my engine light. He also suggested turning off the OD in mountains to conserve brakes. Thank you❣️I knew I was in good hands from the moment I landed at the shop. As a single woman who travels a great deal alone, I'm here to say Carroll's Auto Repair will treat you right with quality work, genuine kindness and at a fair price in today's market. They know their stuff and won't do anything that will cost you more unnecessarily.
Met and talked a bit with Jeff, but missed speaking and thanking Julie for helping me pick their shop from the mass. Maybe next trip!
Ray got Tabby finished in just a few hours and we were on our way to continue exploring. Feels like she has a new pair of runners. Thank you so much all of you, especially Ray!
For out of towners like me, maybe check out the public transit system as an alternate to Lyft, Uber or other in a situation like this. I did and it was great. Bus station is just couple blocks from shop and one way trip is $1. Open mind and positive attitude will make it even better. Station staff are super nice and knowledgeable. I used it from and to the shop and then to ride all over JC. Hard to look and drive, so it's truly a win win.

As a woman, I’m always a little nervous about getting taken advantage of when it comes to car repairs, so I asked around for recommendations — and several people told me to go to Carroll’s Auto Repair. I’m so glad I listened! The team at Carroll’s was incredibly friendly, honest, and fair with their pricing. The dealership quoted me almost double for the same repair, but Carroll’s did excellent work for a much more reasonable price. I hope I don’t need car repairs again anytime soon, but if I do, I’ll definitely be going back to Carroll’s Auto Repair! Highly recommend.

My daughter attends ETSU and her car wouldn't start one evening while she was out. Since I don't live Johnson City, I had it towed to Carroll's. They called and shared that it was only a loose bolt connecting a battery cable at the opposite end from the battery. They fixed it the same day and to say the price was reasonable is an understatement. They shared they feel it's their duty to take care of the college kids. Professional, honest, and showed outstanding integrity. If I lived in JC, this would absolutely be my new shop for ALL repairs.
