How often should I have my chimney cleaned?
Barnhill Chimney Company states that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends annual chimney inspections and cleanings. Creosote buildup can become a fire hazard in as little as one season for wood-burning fireplaces. Gas fireplaces should also be inspected annually for blockages and carbon monoxide risks.
What are the different levels of chimney inspection?
Barnhill Chimney Company is a visual check of accessible areas recommended annually. Level 2 includes video scanning of the flue interior and is required when buying or selling a home, changing fuel types, or after a chimney fire. Level 3 involves partial removal of building components and is needed only when serious structural damage is suspected.
How do I know if my chimney has water damage?
Barnhill Chimney Company Signs of water damage include water stains on ceilings or walls near the chimney, musty odors from the fireplace, white staining on exterior brickwork, crumbling mortar joints, or a rusted damper. Scheduling an inspection is advised if any of these signs are noticed.
Do you service gas fireplaces too?
Barnhill Chimney Company services, installs, and maintains all types of hearth appliances including gas, wood, and electric fireplaces. Their technicians are NFI-certified to handle gas fireplace servicing.
Barnhill Chimney Company is included in a chimney sweep and inspection?
Barnhill Chimney Company A chimney sweep and inspection includes a thorough examination of the firebox, smoke chamber, flue, and external chimney structure, accompanied by a written safety report. It involves a multi-point inspection specific to the appliance, checking floor protection, connector pipe condition, wall pass-through installation, flue condition, exterior masonry, counterflashing, and code-compliant construction. Creosote is removed as needed.

Alec was knowledgeable and professional! Arrived on time, actually called and asked to come a little early. He quickly diagnosed the problem and within the hour had the firelight up and running! Inspected the other fireplace as well. We signed up to have annual servicing with this company!

I had an amazing experience with Barnhill Chimney. From the salespeople to people who answered the phone to the installers everything went incredibly smoothly. It did take longer for the stove to arrive than originally planned but it did not seem to be anything Barnhill had control over and when the stove arrived the moved the install date up. After installation, once of the installers patiently and kindly showed me the best way to use the stove from how to stack the wood (and why it mattered), to how to use the moisture reader to how to operate the stove. He showed me pictures of the roof and how he went to extra effort to make sure it didn'...

Knowledgeable and experienced service. Our technician, Alec was very prompt, helpful and thorough in the work we needed for our fireplace. He made sure everything was working properly and any questions we had he kindly answered them. Barnhill Chimney will definitely be who I call or recommend in the future!

James at Barnhill Chimney Company swept, inspected and fixed a saftey concern that came to his attention. He stayed on-site to fix the problem same day replying, “I’d rather do it right than have it be easy.” when fixing it required him to crawl up above a ceiling in a tiny space in my attic. James was persistent and fixed the issue after calling in support staff, leaving my home clean and safely ready to enjoy a fire. I’d been waiting this season to make sure the fireplace was safe to use. And, very glad I trusted my gut and that James was so diligent in his inspection to find a potential hazard. I highly recommend James for his thoroughness...
